Elaine’s Story

I spent three years in the College of Nursing, but I fell in love with ballroom dancing! I competed -- and later bought a dance school franchise. I expanded it to four locations. I was happy, financially secure and proud of my achievements.

Then my world crashed. In 2013, I lost my business and my home. Not only was I homeless, but I was humiliated and ashamed. My life began a downward spiral that included legal problems, alcohol and enough DUIs to land me in jail. It’s called rock bottom.

I was lucky enough to find my way to Dress for Success and then learned about all the career programs they offer. I became hopeful — and felt that I just might have a chance to be successful again.

The staff and volunteers at Dress for Success Cincinnati are inspiring, encouraging and generous with their personal attention. They helped me see that I could do it again! Dress for Success Cincinnati offered networking events, mock interviews, outside speakers and so much more. Without their support and programs, I’m not sure I would have graduated from college with a Bachelor’s degree or be starting a new business.

The past is the past – today and tomorrow are what’s important to me now. Thank you, Dress for Success Cincinnati.
