Kamali’s Story

I am a 59 year-old mother from Ethiopia. I moved here with my children 10 years ago with a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting and Finance, having worked many years as an Accountant in Ethiopia. But here, I found it impossible to find an Accounting job because the software and technology here were so different.

To learn a different trade, I joined Cincinnati Cooks to get training in Culinary Arts. After I graduated, they referred me to Dress for Success Cincinnati to be suited for an interview suit.

I did receive a beautiful suit, but I also got so much more.

In the past 5 years, I have learned many skills through Dress for Success Cincinnati - personal development, financial literacy, job readiness; setting financial goals and budgeting; conflict management; stress management; how to build a resume and improve self-confidence – and so much more.

The mock interviews I participated in with real-life employers through Dress for Success Cincinnati were so helpful! When I started I was shy, and the feedback I received was negative. After many practice sessions, I built my communication skills and now I can interview with confidence.

Dress for Success is not only about skill building but also building networks and meeting new people. It has changed my life, and I share my Dress for Success Cincinnati story whenever I get the chance.

Thank you, Dress for Success Cincinnati – and all the wonderful staff and volunteers who have helped me and so many other women!
