Appreciating The Magic Behind Our Organization: Our Volunteers

4/5/2022 9:56:24 AM

At Dress for Success Cincinnati, the work we do wouldn't be possible without the help of our amazing volunteers. Each and every person who steps into the DFSC office to volunteer makes a huge impact on our clients and the success of the organization. Whether you've been a volunteer for 15 years or 15 minutes, your time means so much to us.

Volunteering means something different to everyone. Lisa Massa has been a volunteer in the style studio for over 10 years. She said the reason she loves doing it is, “Because of the joy and confidence that it instills in ladies when they come in, and partly because of the joy it brings to me.”

Our volunteers help out in all aspects of the organization. They can volunteer in the donation center sorting clothing or help out in the style studio where they work with clients to find career-ready clothing for an interview or starting employment. “I get such a reward out of seeing our clients appreciate what we do, and more importantly, love how they look when they get a new outfit,” Peggy Eberhard, a styling volunteer, said.

Akane Ishida, a volunteer who moved here from Japan, decided to spend her time volunteering with us because she is unable to work while living in the United States. She mentions that she was at first worried about facing a language barrier while volunteering, but that she has felt very comfortable being a part of our team. “If you can’t speak English, it’s okay." Akane said. "They are very friendly and kind."

Dress for Success has been helping women across the globe for over 20 years and counting. Linda Vaccariello, a three-year volunteer, was a writer before retiring and was inspired to volunteer with us after writing an article about the organization. “One of the great things about being here is that women immediately want to help one another,” Linda said. “And that’s been fun to see.”

At DFSC, women of all backgrounds are able to come together to help one another, which is such a unique experience that Dress for Success provides to their clients and volunteers. We are so thankful for our volunteers and all of the time and effort they give to help Dress for Success thrive.

Each week of April, we invite our volunteers to stop by our office for a special treat.

If you are interested in volunteering, we invite you to attend our Volunteer Open House on Thursday, April 14 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. or contact Volunteer Manager Courtney Shannon here.
