Meet Gwen: DFSC Client to Fashion Show Model

9/1/2022 2:05:44 PM

In just a couple of weeks we will be celebrating our many clients at our 2022 Fashion Show. In this month’s All About HER Blog, we would love to introduce Gwen, one of the client models that will be featured in this year’s Fashion Show.

Gwen first came to Dress for Success Cincinnati when she wanted to reenter the workforce after taking time off to care for a sick relative. Once she started looking for a new job, she realized that none of her professional clothes fit, and she needed to create a strong resume.

Gwen first heard about DFSC when she walked past our previous location downtown to catch the bus. She mentioned seeing our boutique to someone at her church, and they told Gwen that Dress for Success is more than a boutique. Soon after, she decided to stop in.

Gwen then came in for a styling appointment. “Being able to come into the office and say, “I need help,” and knowing someone was going to help me without judging me really boosted my self-esteem.”

Gwen received her interview outfit, was able to create and update her resume, and gained employment!

“Dress for Success Cincinnati is about a lot more than just helping you with clothes. Even 20 years ago, DFSC was about a lot more than clothes.”

Now, Gwen works full time at Mercy Health in the call center. She also owns her own baking business and event planning business, Diva G Enterprises. She hopes to one day get back into administrative work, and eventually work full time at Diva G Enterprises.

Gwen also gives back and volunteers at DFSC. She has been a speaker at EmpowerHER, our monthly networking event, where she helped other women learn an easy dessert recipe! She has also volunteered at Portaluca’s Warehouse Sale.

Gwen leaves other women who may be interested in DFSC this advice: “Go ahead and go. Don’t worry about being plus-sized or not knowing how to style yourself. There is always something at Dress for Success Cincinnati for you. They will help you.”
